Severed Chains

Severed Chains is an unofficial port of the legendary PlayStation RPG Legend of Dragoon, thanks to which you can play comfortably both on PC and Steam Deck, without having to resort to emulators. As a native version, the game runs much more smoothly, with new graphics options, and support for mods, among other things. It is undoubtedly the best way to enjoy this PSX classic.

Simple installation and setup

Although it might not seem like it, Severed Chains is very simple to configure. Simply unzip all the files inside the same folder. Next, move the ROMs of the four game discs to the "isos" folder. It is very important that the ROMs are of the North American (NTSC) release of the game, although it makes no difference whether they are in ISO or BIN format. Once the four disks are inside the folder, double click on "launch.bat" and wait a couple of minutes while the game completes the installation process. You will only have to wait for this the first time you launch the game.

A number of additional options

One of the great advantages of playing Severed Chains over an emulated version is the many native configuration options included within the game. For starters, you can choose whether you want to use panoramic format or keep the original one. You can increase the resolution and frame rate too. In other words, if you want to play in 4K and at 60FPS, you can do so without any problems. Of course, you can also customize the controls and play with the keyboard or with any gamepad you have at home. The game supports both Xbox and PlayStation controllers.

Another benefit of playing Severed Chains over an emulated version is the mods. The game not only has small quality of life improvements built in, but also allows you to add mods which can alter some key aspects. Dragoon Modifier, for example, allows you to increase the general combat difficulty. Rhythm Minigame, on the other hand, adds a whole mini-game. The game even has a built-in mod that allows you to remove Dart (the protagonist) from the group if you prefer to play without him.
